Description

The need for teams to work effectively together is critical to organisational success. If teams are not good enough, important projects inevitably fail.

This toolkit is designed to address that need. It enables teams, and those who coach or facilitate teams, to develop quickly in response to the demands of the work they have to do.

This toolkit provides a comprehensive range of tools and techniques that will facilitate effective team development throughout the team's life cycle, and addresses the complexities of team working in a clear and accessible way. It includes tools that focus on the specific challenges that face organisations today such as virtual teams, matrix organisations, multicultural teams, team mergers, team emotions, and sustaining high performance.

Containing structured facilitator notes, this toolkit enables facilitators to select and apply the most relevant exercises quickly and confidently. A matrix of exercises at the start of the toolkit makes it easy to pick the most appropriate tools and techniques for the purpose, for the team's developmental stage, and for the facilitator's level of experience. Each tool is customisable, ensuring that the techniques chosen are precisely tailored to an organisation's exact needs.

About the author(s)

Alison Hardingham
Alison Hardingham is a business psychologist and an author. As the director of her own consultancy, Yellow Dog Consulting, she works with organisations and individuals at times of chosen, imposed, and hoped-for change. Much of Alison''s work over the last few years has been centred on teamworking, leading large-scale projects intended to introduce a flexible teamworking culture across broad sections of the organisation and working closely with management and executive teams within organisations. Alison read experimental psychology at Oxford University, where she obtained a first-class honours degree and a masters. She then spent several years working with disturbed children and their families. She went into consultancy over 12 years ago, so she has experience of contributing to her own organisation as a team member, as well as consulting to others as a team-developer.
Alison''s most recent publication for the CIPD is ''The Coach''s Coach'', (2004) written with contributions from Mike Brearley, Adrian Moorhouse and Brendan Venter and now a standard coaching text. Alison is considered an expert in the field of executive coaching and has used that expertise to enhance significantly the coaching strength of this second edition of Team Development Exercises.
