Returning to membership couldn’t be easier
The estimated lifetime economic benefit of membership of a professional institute, in today's money is £71,000. If you’ve previously been a member of the CIPD or the former Institute of Personnel and Development (IPD), you can rejoin at the grade you previously held.
What do I need to do to rejoin?
Simply fill in the returning to membership application form and return it to us with the relevant membership fees.
How long will it take to rejoin?
Providing we have all the required information from you, we’ll send out your membership card and receipt of payment within ten working days of receiving your application form.

If you’re applying to rejoin us as a Graduate or at a chartered grade of membership (previously known as full member), you’ll need to provide evidence of your Continuing Professional Development (CPD). You’ll also need to demonstrate that your work experience is current by enclosing an up-to-date CV.
If you’re applying to rejoin as a Chartered Member, your CV must demonstrate that you’ve got three years’ relevant current managerial-level experience. To return as a Chartered Fellow you need to show ten years relevant current managerial-level experience and be working at a strategic level.
If you’re applying to rejoin as an Affiliate, Associate or Licentiate member you don’t need to provide CPD evidence or submit a CV.
If your membership lapsed on 1 July 2008, you can restart your membership online.
Get the recognition you deserve
Your experience may now qualify you to upgrade to either Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow.
Once you have received your new CIPD membership card you can submit an upgrading application.
