Associate membership

An Associate member works in a role giving vital support to the key areas of HR (central HR, learning and development or another professional area of HR). They use their specialist HR skills and knowledge to support HR leaders and managers.

About the new Associate professional membership

We’re introducing a completely new Associate level of professional membership to recognise professionalism below Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow. These three levels represent professional competence based not just on knowledge (including qualifications), but also activity and behavioural impact in the workplace. They set new standards for the HR profession and ensure competent practitioners at all levels are fully recognised. They represent employers’ expectations of HR professionals in business today and in the future.

Benefits of Associate membership

The new Associate level is a professional badge of competence that signals to employers, across all sectors, nationally and internationally that HR practitioners are able to apply their knowledge in a business context. It also enables CIPD to provide real professional recognition for HR professionals who are making a substantial contribution to the organisations for which they work, but who are not yet at Chartered Member level.

We’ll be promoting and explaining this new professional level of membership to employers and the wider HR profession to ensure your professional competence is recognised.
