CHARTERED FELLOW (CHARTERED FCIPD)

Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD) is the highest grade of membership which you can apply for.

There is a further grade of membership called Chartered Companion (Chartered CCIPD), this grade of membership is achieved by invitation only. It is awarded in recognition of a significant contribution to the profession or to the CIPD.

CHARTERED MEMBER (CHARTERED MCIPD)

If you're a Chartered Member (Chartered MCIPD), you can apply to become a Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD).

If you have at least 10 years' relevant managerial experience and your current and most recent roles are at a strategic management level (minimum three years), you may be eligible to become a Chartered Fellow. This is the highest grade of membership you can apply for.

If you're a Graduate member, you can apply to become a Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow.

If you have 3 years' relevant managerial experience in a personnel or development role you may be eligible to become a Chartered Member.
If you have 10 years' managerial experience of which 3 are in a personnel or development role you may be eligible to become a Chartered Fellow. Your upgrade is free if you've been a Graduate member for less than a year.

If you're a Licentiate member you can achieve graduate or chartered membership.

Complete a CIPD-approved post-graduate qualification in full to achieve Graduate membership.

If you have significant managerial level experience in HR you could qualify for chartered membership through PAC.

    If you're an Associate member you may be eligible to study for a CIPD-approved post-graduate qualification, which leads to Licentiate (for part completion) or Graduate membership (full completion).


    If you complete a CIPD NVQ you can also become a Licentiate member.

    If you're a studying Affiliate member you can upgrade your membership to Associate, Licentiate or Graduate.

    In most cases when you successfully complete your qualification your membership grade will change. Your next grade of CIPD membership will depend on what CIPD approved qualification you are studying and your level of professional experience.     If you are a non-studying Affiliate member and wish to achieve a professional grade of membership then you can study for a CIPD-approved qualification, or if eligible, go through professional assessment of competence (PAC).
