Get involved

If you've got the relevant experience, why not get involved? CIPD members can play a valuable voluntary role in the work of the Institute in various ways including through Branch activities and as directors and charity trustees (Executive Board), and the Membership and Education Committee.

You can also help us to 'talent spot' potentially suitable individuals to serve as Honorary Officers (Vice Presidents and Honorary Treasurer).

Branches

Our 48 branches welcome volunteers who’re prepared to serve on their committees.

Typical responsibilities might include:
• organizing learning and networking events
• acting as the link person with a local centre, normally a university or college,
• which runs CIPD courses
• managing or contributing to the branch newsletter
• web editing for the branch
• creating networks for special interest groups
So, if you are looking to build relationships with other professionals, develop your transferrable skills, and contribute to your profession, do get in touch with your local branch.

Executive Board

The Board is the CIPD's senior governance body. Members are directors and charity trustees. All except the Director General (CIPD's CEO) are non-executive.

The Board has responsibility for the CIPD's overall strategic, financial and other resources, and the CIPD's governance.

The number of vacancies on the Board will depend on the number of retiring Board members. Council is responsible for electing individuals who must be chartered members and meet the competency requirements.

We will be looking for people for the Executive Board from November 2008, so please get in touch with us at that time.

Membership and Education Committee

This is a committee of the Executive Board. It's responsible for advising on the development of the CIPD's professional standards and other requirements for the various levels of membership. It also oversees the accreditation of centres which offer programmes leading to CIPD membership. Members must be able to contribute to the strategic agenda in this area including developing flexible routes to membership and increasing employer engagement with the CIPD.

This is a large committee with ten chief moderators and examiners as ex-officio postholders so we are seeking people who can offer complementary expertise. You must be a chartered member.

We will be looking for people for the Membership and Education Committee from November 2008, so please get in touch with us at that time.

CIPD Honorary Officers, Vice-Presidents, and Honorary Treasurer

We will be looking for people to take office from the AGM in November 2009. Our President and Vice-Presidents are Honorary Officers with a strategic and thought leadership role. You can help us 'talent spot' potentially suitable individuals. Closer to the time we will be asking that you please tell us about people you think have sufficient professional and public standing to fulfil these roles.
