Business Link
This Government website, part of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, has launched two new services to give information and guidance on starting a business.  The first site, called 'Start-up Service',  includes tutorials and videos of case-studies.
The other is the Growth and Improvement Service which discusses common pitfalls and gives help on planning and growing the business.  From this site you can apply for help from national network of more than 10,000 experienced mentors from a wide variety of business backgrounds

Deloitte
The research area has information on Deloitte’s findings/reports on a range of subjects including the global economic outlook, demographics, leadership. Globalization and other strategic issues. You can sign up for alerts on subjects on interest.

The Economist
Website of The Economist magazine has podcasts on various countries and international issues.
 
European and Social Research Council
Website of the ESRC research programme – The Future of Work. Provides a number of online articles and research papers.

Eurofound
Website of the Eurofound, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions.  Has a paper on the initiatives taken by various European companies to address the effects fo the recession.

Ernst & Young
The Ernst & Young Library contains newsletters, reports, white papers and other thought leadership for you to download.

Foresight
A Government site with a strategic future planning tool, developed by Shell.  You will need to register use use the planner either individaully or with a group.

FTSE
The website to find the FTSE indices.  By altering the date menu you can see the Stock Exchange movements over various peiods.

Contains articles from the back issues of over 900 magazines, journals, trade publications and newspapers. Free and links to paid for subscriptions.

Google – useful tools 
Can't do the maths? Google search bar can be used to solve arithmetical and mathematical problems.  Google finance gives financial information about stocks, public and private companies along with charts, news and fundamental financial data.

Hemscott 
Hemscott gives access to financial information, tools and free weekly newsletter. Free and paid for.  Has financial information, tool and news. Free annual reports

Hoovers 
Has an A-Z list of companies. Gives key data, employees and competitors and industry overviews.

Institute of Directors 
Has a list of fact sheets covering topics of interest including: Payroll, Budgeting, Managing your sales team, SWOT analysis and Cost control. RSS feed facility.

JB Associates

Keep Britain Working
Independent website, endorsed by some MPs, gives suggestions
on how to manage in a recession and how to avoid redundancies.  Use the tabs at the top of the home page to see the drop-down menus.  Has its own Useful Links page.

The management magazine has a 13-minute video on risk management by Peter Bernstein.

New Economics Foundation (NEF)
Website of the New Economics Foundation which promotes economic, social and environmental issues through practical pilot projects, tools for change, in-depth research, campaigning, policy discussion, and raising awareness through the media and publications. Contains a section on its work on well-being, including a number of downloadable publications.

PricewaterhouseCoopers
This consultancy has produced its annual global CEO Survey.  This time it looks at what adaptations have been made to strategy in view of the the Big Recession.  Also looks at attitudes to risk, volaltility and flexibility.

Rialto
This consultancy has produced a report: Managing people costs in a downturn  it lays out some alternatives to making people redundant while enabling the business to continue.

Has a useful newsletter called the Resilience Report .  You need to register before being able to have access to it and its archive.
