Driving meaningful working lives in a more automated workplace, motivating a multi-generational workforce and the future of skills and learning are just some of the topics being discussed at the CIPD's Festival of Work.

The two-day conference - held at Olympia London and running from Wednesday 12 to Thursday 13 June 2019 - will explore the biggest issues in the world of work, with a strong focus on technology. A mix of masterclasses, skills sessions and panel discussions make up the programme, which aims to spark debate as well as offer inspiration and practical solutions.

The event is not just aimed at those who work in HR and L&D, but business leaders and managers as well. It builds on the CIPD's previous Learning and Development and HR Software and Recruitment shows and will be divided into six streams:

  • Future of Leadership and Business Management
  • Future of People Management and Organisation Development
  • Future of HR Technology and Digital Working
  • Future of Learning Technology and Digital Learning
  • Future of Talent, Skills and Capabilities
  • Future of Learning Strategy for Business Success

130 speakers with a range of expertise and perspectives have been lined up to take part. Alongside Greg Clark, they include Garry Kasparov, former world chess champion, who will talk about his shifting views around artificial intelligence and the role human creativity has to play in the future of work. The closing address will come from the world’s first cyborg artist, Neil Harbisson, on the integration between humans and machines.

Matthew Taylor, CEO of the Royal Society of Art; Sir Anthony Seldon, best-selling author; and Caroline Fairbairn, director general of the CBI, will also be speaking. As will representatives from some of the most well-known and successful businesses including Google, McDonalds, British Land, L’Oreal, Siemens plc and PepsiCo.

Away from the talks, attendees can take part in yoga sessions at the Well-Being Village or try out the latest tech from cutting-edge providers in the Innovation Village.

Further programme highlights include: Defeating the overload – making learning fit to busy and fast-paced work environments, The power of people data - how predictive HR analytics can reshape your future workforce and Well-being and Mental health in a digital workplace - reducing digital stress.

Peter Cheese, chief executive of the CIPD, said:

"With technology rapidly changing the world of work, it’s more important than ever that we share and understand the many changes and implications on our organisations and people. At the very heart of a successful business is how to attract, motivate, develop and retain people; the Festival of Work will explore how we can do this in an uncertain world and with emerging technologies.

"The event brings together HR and L&D professionals, policy makers, trade unions, business leaders and managers, and many others, and we look forward to welcoming them all to Olympia next month."
