Annual Conference's blog

Staying energised - day two! - Rebecca Clake

Woke up to sunny and dry morning in Manchester - good day so far. Being six months pregnant means I've avoided the classic conference trap of staying up tooooo late last night so am enjoying being able to tackle the day with a good night's sleep behind me. Really enjoyed the session I went to on Adapating leadership development - with some great input from the two case study organisations Save the Children and KPMG. I particularly like the way Liz Church from KPMG was able to draw on her own experience as part of the Emerging leaders programme - to give the employee as well as the HR perspective. KPMG are one of the organisations who took part in CIPD's recent research on talent management 'The talent perspective - what does it feel like to be talent managed?' (published in Summer 2010 - see www.cipd.co.uk/surveys to download the report) so it was really interesting to hear about their programme first-hand.

Looking forward to seeing some more of our research in the spotlight this afternoon - with our Shaping the Future programme forming the basis of a discussion with Tom Crawford from British Gas, Carmel Millar at Surrey County Council and our own Adviser John McGurk. They'll be looking to understand more about how HR can use its influence to drive sustainable organisation performance for the long-term. If you want to find out more (and can't join today's session) watch this space - we'll be launching the research findings from our longitudinal study at our Engagement Conference in January....

With tonight's CIPD People Management Awards dinner approaching I'm off for a quick lie down.....
