15 February 2012 18:30 for 19:00 start
Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes Branch
(Bedford)
Subject area:
HR practice
Venue:
Barnfield College , New Bedford Road , Luton, Bedfordshire, LU2 7BF
Speaker(s):
Jerry Anderson, Operations Manager, Magnox South, creator of the winning training programme. Two trainees from the programme, one early graduate and one recent participant.
Event details:
The Radiation Safety Practitioner Training Programme won the UK Macro category National Training Award 2011. This workforce development scheme was their response to the national shortage of expertly trained individuals through universities scaling back their nuclear curricula. Additionally, the few suitable staff in the UK were unwilling to move to the site and most relevant experts were due to retire in the next ten years. The workforce strategic plan set out to deal with the urgent and future skills shortage. They also wanted to reduce reliance upon national recruitment (80% of the workforce) when they were the main employer in the area. The scheme has been so successful, it is being rolled out more widely. This effective workforce planning practice will add to the knowledge which personnel professionals can use for themselves and for their organisations.
This event forms part of a series under the running title "Take the Blinkers Off" and will support Continuing Professional Development because participants will:
• Identify methods for approaching workforce planning creatively
• Consider how to ensure staff have skills for the present and future
• Identify methods for improving relationships with local communities
• Consider how recruiting and developing staff from new sources improves the employer brand
Our meetings allow networking to take place before and after the main presentation. Members considering upgrading can seek advice from Paula Grayson during the networking times.
