Speaker(s): Dr David Pendleton has been consulting in occupational psychology for over 20 years throughout the world. Most of his work is in top team development and leadership development; he is also a specialist in the assessment of business leaders. He is an Associate Fellow of the Saïd Business School, Oxford and of Green Templeton College, Oxford. He also contributes to Executive Education programmes at Harvard Business School and has just co-authored a book called ‘Leadership: All you need to know’ with Prof Adrian Furnham of UCL.
Event details: There is an outmoded view that a leader should ride a white horse and have all the answers. This hero idea is a cultural myth. What we need is collective leadership and you are more likely to find the skills needed in a group than in one individual.

Dr David Pendleton, co-founder of business psychology consultancy Edgecumbe Consulting, will discuss the implications of incomplete leadership, and how you can get a team to lead.

Leadership is about teams and leaders who recognise what skills and qualities they have – and who they need to complement their own contributions - are more likely to be effective. A CEO cannot be expected to have all the qualities needed for a top leadership team; it’s just not realistic to think that they can excel on all the required fronts. What’s needed is a leader without an ego who plays to their strengths, but also recognises their weaknesses and surrounds themselves with people who complement them.
