What to look for in purchasing and designing assessment products and services to save money and achieve best results

There are many ways to assess staff. They vary widely both in effectiveness and cost, but the most expensive are not necessarily the most effective, effectiveness depends on suitability of method.

Through some real examples we’ll examine the importance of job analysis, to understand the precise nature of the requirements of the roles involved, and consequently to develop appropriate methods.

  • You’ll be introduced to the basic range of methods of assessments through the “assessment continuum”, a simple way to match the assessment method to job requirements that you can use immediately.
  • We'll look at the importance of incremental validity that is derived from using different methods of assessment and how this can be integrated with existing measures such as appraisal or performance figures.
  • We’ll look at the options for designing and buying-in products, and developing in-house or using external expertise, using some examples from existing exercises, psychometrics and situational judgement tests.
  • Finally, we’ll do a “surgery”, an opportunity to pose real assessment problems and get immediate answers and suggestions for ways forward.

You’ll go away with some tools you can use immediately to get more “bang for the buck” from your budget and a greater understanding of how you can achieve good results with limited resources.
