Spring Newsletter 2009

Branch update
CIPD Central London branch e-newsletter
Spring 2009

Welcome to our first e-newsletter

We haven’t previously distributed a newsletter so this is a new venture for us. We look forward by introducing some key future events and activities. We hope this will help you make the most of what we’re doing for you and encourage you to get involved with your local CIPD branch.

Michael Moran
Branch Chair, London City Branch

Relax with a Summer walk and your AGM

Our AGM is on 27 May so join us for an early summer evening walk preceeded by the brief Branch Annual General meeting. We will start and finish at Manning House near Victoria station. and hear all about this fascinating part of London and find out about a few of the scandals too!

Chris Everett will take us on a guided walk through the streets of this hidden part of London that is in the process of so much change.

Nominated branch officers and committee members are elected at the AGM. If you are interested in nominating yourself for one of the roles and would like to discuss it further, Michael Moran, Branch Chair, will be able to talk to you about the role and responsibilities.

You are 1 of approximately 6,500 members of the London City branch - and your worth it. So how about having your say, gettting involved or just coming along.

Get involved with London Branch events!

Now that the summer weather is here (we hope!), no doubt the attendance at our events will be even higher than in those dark winter months. Our events over the past few months have nevertheless been well attended and we urgently need some volunteer members to help organise the meetings. Those who feel brave might like to have a go at chairing a meeting and those who just like the social interaction, might like to help with the meet and greet. Here are some guidelines to the roles:

For the Chairing role, you may need to have some understanding of the content of the talk to help field questions and summarise the content, although this is not essential. The important duties are to ensure the event starts on time, to introduce the speakers, make sure the evaluation sheet is completed and collected and sent back to the CIPD.

Find out more about our future events.

A little bit of volunteering can improve your networking skills
For the Meet and Greet role, you just need to come early to the venue and make sure that the attendees know where the facilities are, ensure they find the refreshments and register them as they arrive.

And of course, we are also delighted if you have some ideas for an event – but even more delighted if you would be able to actually organise the event at Manning House in conjunction with myself and Denise Walton the administrator. The Events need to reflect the members interests – and therefore we would welcome your active participation in making this happen! Those of us on the Committee are in a voluntary role so the more we can involve our members, the more we can represent your interests.

The final version of the Events Programme for September to December will be published in the Summer news letter which you will receive in August. However these events will be published on the web site in July and you'll be able to book from that point onwards.
