Branch update
CIPD Coventry and Warwickshire branch e-newsletter
Winter 2012

Seasonal Greetings from the Coventry & Warwickshire Branch!!

I don’t know about you, but I think we’re all ready for a relaxing festive season after the busy few months we’ve had! Since our last newsletter, we’ve organised 7 events – the details of which can still viewed here. And if you missed any of them, often the information and slides are still available. We also have many more events organised for 2012 – covering a plethora of topics – from maximising your personal profile, to coaching others – so please do browse our event details and book yourself on to a few. And if there are any matters that you’d like to see discussed, please let us know.

Something else to consider for the New Year – and a great way to enhance your skills – and CV – may be to join the committee, and even take up one of our Officer roles. We have a couple of vacant positions currently on the committee – including the Treasurer role and the Vice Chair role. If you are interested in finding out more, please get in touch.

Finally, on behalf of the Committee – we wish you, and your families, a very Merry Christmas and a very prosperous New Year!

A trip to the Annual Conference in Manchester

Coventry & Warwickshire branch commitee member Janice Crompton-Brough attended the CIPD Annual Conference and Exhibition last month in Manchester as our student representative.

Housing an incredibly vast array of resources, with ‘Twitterversity’ bite-size training events, seminars and workshops covering a wide range of topical HRD issues, she found that there really was something for everyone at this year’s ACE – including hand-bag size Christmas trees, purple umbrellas and chocolate!

To find our more about ACE 2011 please read Janice's review of her visit to Manchester

Help Get Britain Working: The Mentoring Pilot

The Coventry and Warwickshire youth mentoring scheme is just about half way through and we’ve had some fantastic results already. To keep you up to date here are some of the figures so far:

  • We have successfully completed 12 mentoring relationships which have all had positive outcomes, either the young person finding employment/work experience, or learning new skills and building their confidence.
  • We have a got 96 CIPD members registered onto the scheme and we still receive a few new forms each week so this is continuously growing.
  • A recent email communication to members had resulted in 17 new members signing up to be mentors.

Next month CIPD will meet with Job Centre Plus to discuss and evaluate the project so far, and to share some of the success stories.  In December we are holding a drinks reception to thank all of our mentors for their hard work so far, this event is taking place at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry.

And in November we held a workshop for mentors in Coventry.  They had some really good questions and feedback for us, so we've been able ot put together a mentoring young people fact sheet.  This has now been uploaded onto the VLE website for all mentors to see.

If you require any further information about the mentoring pilot please call Kelly Duncan on 0208 6126406 or email on k.duncan@cipd.co.uk
