“From Farm Gate to Fridge Door – exploring the challenges that migrant workers present for HR Professionals”

East Yorkshire is in the middle of a staffing revolution.
The use of migrant workers to fill the skills gap has become common practice within the food production and manufacturing sectors in this region. These sectors are the major users of this flexible form of worker, but just how effective is this? Is this merely a pragmatic and temporary response to labour and skill shortage or is something more significant occurring?
Is this group of workers presenting new challenges that will transform the traditional HR roles?

In brief, this session will explore:-

  • Is this phenomenon merely a temporary response to skills gaps?
  • How are HR professionals presently responding?
  • Are new roles and responsibilities emerging for the HR professional?
  • What wider implications are there for the business?
