The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is delighted that five members of the Irish police force have succeeded in securing chartered membership status reflecting the increased commitment within An Garda Síochána to developing professional people management.
This success is part of a CIPD pilot programme on enhanced routes to membership and An Garda Síochána is the first organisation in Britain and Ireland to achieve a 100% success rate in that all applicants secured chartered status.
Presentation of the chartered membership was made today by CIPD-Ireland director, Michael McDonnell, and the Garda Commissioner, Mr Fachtna Murphy, at Garda Headquarters this afternoon (Wednesday, 23rd April).
'I am delighted that An Garda Síochána has shown a serious commitment to best people management practices and professionalism. This was already reflected in the Garda entry in our HR Excellence Awards last year winning the overall public sector award', Mr McDonnell said.
