Event details:
The IOM CIPD Group is delighted to announce that in partnership with ACAS, we are able to offer the Certificate in Internal Workplace Mediation (CIWM) on the Isle of Man. This is a unique opportunity to gain this valuable qualification as this is the first time this has been available locally.
This is a 5 day course: 16 Feb, 17 Feb, 22 Feb, 23 Feb & 24 Feb 2012. ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED ON ALL 5 DAYS.
Charge: £2,000 CIPD/CIM members and for £2,100 non-members (VAT exempt as vocational training.)
We are able to offer a maximum of 12 places which will be allocated strictly on a first come first served basis.
The CIWM is accredited by OCR, one of the main awarding bodies in the UK. This means that you can be sure the qualification you gain meets a consistent standard and that the delivery of the course and assessment of trainees is externally verified and quality assured by OCR. This course also attracts 29 hours of accreditation for the Law Society Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.
This five-day course gives employees and managers the mediation skills and strategies they need to successfully mediate in their own workplace. It equips candidates with the skills, behaviours and knowledge needed to be an effective workplace mediator and manage the mediation process.
The course consists of 5 units and will take place over 5 days as detailed above. The units are:
•Unit 1: Understanding Conflict and Mediation In the Workplace
•Unit 2: Introducing the Parties to Mediation
•Unit 3: Moving Through the Mediation Process
•Unit 4: Skills and Strategies for Managing the Mediation Process
•Unit 5: Practising Mediation Skills
ACAS will use a variety of learning styles and methods to meet the needs of candidates. This will include tutor input sessions, tutor led discussions, workshops, syndicate exercises, group exercises and role plays. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and time to develop your own learning needs.
The award
The five units make up the full award. The units are progressive and form a complete programme leading to the Certificate in Internal Workplace Mediation. You cannot claim individual units. Completion of the course itself is not sufficient to achieve the award. The award can only be achieved if the assessor is satisfied that you have achieved the required level of knowledge, skills and understanding.
Assessment will be on the basis of written evidence and completed assessor records of observed skills practice during the course. All the knowledge, skills and understanding required to gain the certificate is covered on the course, but you would benefit your own self-development by including reference to your own experience and wider reading.
Entry requirements
There will be no formal entry requirements. The suitability for entry to the course will be assessed by the employing organisation in discussion with the ACAS trainer/assessor. Useful pre-requisites are effective skills in oral communication along with the ability to develop empathy and build rapport.
Prior to the course and once you have been accepted you will need to complete a form to provide background information about your knowledge, experience and attitudes towards the mediation process.
Portfolio building
It is your responsibility to clearly label and structure your portfolio placing the contents checklist as the first page. Failure to do so may mean that you do not gain the award.
The award document specifies the evidence required. If you have any queries please ask your tutor/assessor.
Submission and assessment of candidates’ written evidence
You need to let your assessor have your portfolio of written evidence within one month of completing the course. The assessor will return his/her assessment decision and written feedback to you within 6 weeks of receiving your portfolio. If your evidence is insufficient for the assessor to pass you, the assessor’s feedback will include areas for development and you will be given a further 3 weeks minimum to resubmit your portfolio. You will have one opportunity to resubmit your portfolio. The assessor also has the option to ask you oral questions to supplement your evidence. Your responses will be recorded and added to your portfolio.
Please note that portfolios will not be accepted if they are received more than six months after completing the course.
Please note that resubmitted portfolios will not be accepted if they are received more than one year after completing the course.
