Winter 2012

Welcome to the Leicestershire branch Winter E-Newsletter

As I sit and look out of my window today the view is rather bare!  The leaves have all gone, (the ground is covered with them! another job for the weekend) and the year has nearly gone too!  Where to - I am sure we all ask.

We, as a committee have endeavoured to put together an interesting, topical and varied programme of events following on from membership requests.  We hope you enjoyed attending some, if not all the events and have benefited in some way from attendance.  Our ongoing commitment to the membership continues and we have an exciting plan of vents for 2012 together with our other voluntary activities in supporting the local Colleges and University with a re-launched mentoring programme, feeding back comments and thoughts on CIPD policy through the policy group, guiding members on through upgrading - we hope to see you at a branch event in the New Year.

2012 – what will the Olympic year bring?  I feel sure that there will be more uncertainty and challenging times in the field of HR – that story never changes!  So with that in mind I would like to wish all our members a peaceful, healthy and happy Festive Season and good wishes for an Olympic 2012.  The focus for 2012 will be CPD – watch this space

Welcome Evening and Students Awards October 2011

Celebration and Welcome were the themes of the Branch meeting held in October at De Montfort University.  The CIPD Leicestershire Student of the Year Awards sponsored by Geldards Employment Law Team were presented to the winners:

The achievements of each of the winners were outlined by their nominating college and full details can be found on the branch website.

The Welcome was for those students who have just started CIPD courses in  Leicestershire. After a formal welcome from Amanda Thompson who kindly hosted the evening Kevin Underdown, Emma Hogkinson, Louise Lennon and John Kenney outlined their roles both in the Branch and in the Profession.

Jay Webb, Vice Chair led a question and answer session explaining the opportunities offered by the Branch before closing the evening.

Employment Law Update - Protected Conversations

If it wasn’t difficult enough to have a genuine 'without prejudice conversation' in times of need, David Cameron has now stated that the government will consult on the introduction and use of ‘protected conversations’ in the workplace.

To find out more about protected conversations and their potential impact in the workplace please read the full article by Michael Briggs of Cummins Solicitors.
