Membership Upgrading

Professional membership is the benchmark for best practice in HR. Gaining recognition from the world's largest Chartered HR and development body can give you a competitive advantage.
There are three levels of professional membership;

An Associate member (Assoc CIPD)

• Works in a role giving vital support to the key areas of HR (central HR, learning and development or other professional areas of HR). They use their HR skills and knowledge to support HR leaders and managers.

A Chartered Member (Chartered MCIPD)

• Demonstrates the expertise needed to plan and manage generalist or specialist HR operations. Combining their HR professional knowledge, skill and insights with an understanding of an organisation's context and structure, they create and deliver integrated HR services and solutions that help drive their organisation.

A Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD)

• Holds a strategic position and demonstrates the expertise to lead the key areas of HR. Using their professional skills, knowledge and expertise, they determine, develop and implement HR strategies, plans and policies to promote and achieve organisational success.

Upgrading is only available for candidates who already have a CIPD qualification. To check if you are eligible to upgrade please go to; http://www.cipd.co.uk/Membership/upgrade/Membership-upgrading-eligibility.htm

Student Welcome to Forth Valley College
On 1 September 2010, Martin Dowling, Branch Vice-Chair, provided new Foundation Programme students at Forth Valley College with an introduction to the Branch and the wider organisation of the CIPD in Scotland. After an overview of the many resources for students that the Institute provides, especially its web-based resources, Martin spoke of the relationship between the four Scottish Branches and the umbrella organisation that links them, the Scottish Partnership.
Of particular interest to the students was the SP’s organisation of the Student Conference in March 2011 and the
opportunities it provides for students to hear from prominent speakers linked to the Institute’s educational programmes.
At Branch level, Martin emphasised the opportunities provided by the Branch Programme of events to learn of practitioner
developments concerning aspects of HRM linked to their studies. The networking and wider learning opportunities were also emphasised. It was noted that Forth Valley College would be hosting a Branch
Programme event on the new Equality Act. This was to be held in November (details to be confirmed) and students looked forward to attending the event.

Finally, students wished to thank the Branch for its gift to them of an executive folder for use in connection with their
studies.
