Free Careers Conference
North London CIPD members are invited to attend the 2012 HR Careers Conference being organised by the South West London branch of the CIPD.
Sessions during this free event (to be held in Wimbledon) will focus on recruitment, careers advice, CIPD professional membership, image and CPD.
There's a great line-up of speakers and plenty of opportunity to get ideas and advice on the next stage of your HR career.
For full details and to book your place, visit the South West London branch website.
London Consortium Proposal
CIPD has been reviewing how branches can best serve members and since April 2011 representatives from the Branch Committee have been regularly meeting colleagues from other branches with a view to improving collaboration and providing a more joined up service to members.
As a result, the branches working together have formed the London Consortium. The branches involved are Central London, North London, West London and South East Thames (South West London are considering joining, but do not currently form part of the consortium).
The idea is not to create one large London branch, as there is general agreement that members are best served by retaining a local focus and a branch committee. However, there is also agreement that branches must work together especially in terms of improving member communications and event publicity.
The Consortium has developed a proposal which sets out the possibility of establishing two full time equivalent coordinator posts who will be responsible for supporting the Consortium Branch Committees and publicising and supporting branch events across London. A corresponding job description has also been prepared. We would like to thank our branch co-ordinator Erika Lucas for her support and insight in understanding the co-ordinator role and helping us to shape the Consortium Co-ordinator job description.
If the proposal goes ahead, the intention is for a London-wide programme of events to be circulated to all members across the Consortium which would include individual branch events as well as possible Consortium events. Members could attend any events.
The desired outcome is an increase in event attendance and member involvement as well as other synergies and economies of scale. This will make it feasible to offer other services which local branches are currently unable to support.
The appointment of shared Coordinators will be by open competition, and managed by the Branch Chairs from the Consortium branches. The new Coordinators will also report to those Branch Chairs although be employees of CIPD.
The proposal is currently under consideration by CIPD Head Office and we will report back to you in February with an update of how the proposal has been received and what our next steps are. Watch this space and also our LinkedIn group for further information.

Events Programme
We have recently added some new events to our programme. Make sure you keep up-to-date with what's happening by visiting our events page regularly.
The majority of our events are free, although a few are chargeable. Just visit the event listings on this website for full details of sessions and fees where applicable - and to check that the event is suitable for your specific interests and level of expertise.
Our Events Booking System
Our events are extremely popular and we now run a booking system. If you would like to attend one of our events, please request a place by using the 'book event' button at the end of each event listing. We are no longer able to accept bookings via phone or email.
Booking via the website allows us to collate and manage event information more effectively - and to communicate with you directly about events.
Once we have received your booking request, we will confirm whether a place is available.
Please make sure you provide telephone contact details on your booking request so that we can contact you in the event of an event having to be cancelled at short notice.
