We are a busy branch!  In addition to our main branch event each month we currently have four special interest groups in Mediation, Training and Development, Voluntary Sector, and Knowledge into Practice.   Each of these groups runs smaller events on a regular basis.  Please see below for further information and a contact for each group and go to the Events page for details of special interest and geographical group events coming up.

Mediation Group

What is Mediation? Mediation can be an alternative dispute resolution mechanism in a variety of situations.  The aims of the Mediation Group are:

  • to raise awareness of mediation as an alternative tool for dispute resolution
  • to provide a forum for mediation interest
  • to increase knowledge and awareness

We have designed our events to provide opportunities to discuss the principles of mediation and aspects of workplace mediation.

We are always looking to welcome new members to the group and increase our database.  Please contact lindadewar@tiscali.co.uk for further information.

Training and Development Group

The Training and Development Group welcomes all who have an interest in training or development.  Our events are organised by the members themselves and begin with a friendly welcome, refreshments and a chance to meet new people and renew connections with those you already know. Typically, at some point in the evening’s programme, we include an interactive session.

If you would like further information on the group or to join our e-mail list, please contact Benjamin.budd@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

Voluntary Sector Group

The Voluntary Sector Group organises events that provide ideal networking opportunities and specially-tailored events for HR practitioners. Attendees are mostly but not exclusively from across the South East of Scotland voluntary and not-for-profit organisations. The events tend to be a workshop format that is designed to be participative and interactive. For some sessions we join up with other Special Interest Groups such as the Mediation Group to link into their specialist area. The Group is fortunate to have a core sponsor who provides us with a dedicated venue at Alzheimer Scotland, 22 Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh.

All Voluntary Sector events are organised by members of the CIPD South East of Scotland Voluntary Sector Team. The team is dependent on the dedication, commitment and great sense of humour of fellow HR professionals across a variety of sectors. If you would like to be part of making events happen, or would like further information on the group, please email your interest to angela.iannetta@blueyonder.co.uk or come along to one of our events and speak to the team.

Knowledge into Practice Group

The KIP group is an active network of HR academics and practitioners within the Branch brought together to create and disseminate state-of-the-art research in HRM policy and practice.  Activities this year will centre on the building of collaborative networks across all sectors of the Scottish economy that provide an active and flexible interface between academia, policy makers and HR practitioners.
