As you will see from our Programme of Events, we have provided a fantastic array of events across the West of England, organised by our area Groups; Bath & West Wilts, Bristol and Somerset, as well as our specialist Groups; the Independent Consultants and the Public Sector Forum.
The Branch’s aim is to support you locally and provide opportunities for you to network; keep up-to-date with changes in legislation; provide topical, interesting and inspiring events; support your CPD, provide guidance and support for your upgrades; feedback into policy and legislative changes and have a real input into shaping the frameworks that we work within; provide a user friendly and informative website and a regular newsletter “Dialogue” to keep you updated and informed of news and events.
If you wish to receive e-mail updates and flyers from the branch, please contact Lise Sheridan (see "Contact Us" page).
We have also been working on the Conference for 6th January 2010 – ‘Survival of the fittest’, which will be more interactive, so keep this date free in your diary!
We have lined up the following speakers and the programme so far is as follows:
• Debbie Wilkes, from Debbie Wilkes Associates will be presenting “Leadership and Power in HR.
In tough times HR professionals have an even more critical role to play – our expertise and judgement can help our organisations to leverage their strengths and talents in new ways, and to consolidate consistent performance against the promises we make to our customers or community. But how do we get our voices heard at the right level?
• Gerwyn Davies, CIPD Public Policy
Gerwyn Davies joined the Institute in January 2000. He previously worked as a researcher for the Wales European Centre, Brussels and as a consultant for Central Lobby Consultants, Westminster.
In addition to the responsibility for coordinating the institute’s public policy activities, Gerwyn is jointly responsible for producing the CIPD/KPMG’s influential quarterly Labour Market Outlook. Gerwyn has also jointly managed the CIPD/People Management’s HR goes green campaign.

• Dr Graeme Codrington (FPSA) will keep you entertained for the afternoon, presenting “Mind the Gap: understanding different generations”. This is humour-filled presentation that will raise the energy after lunch, and give excellent content on Gen X & Y. This will be followed by a workshop entitled “The Talent Challenge: Engaging and enthusing your people” which will be an interactive workshop on the 6 keys to attracting and retaining talented young people. The sessions will incorporate Case studies, key tips and simulation exercises.
As we have further details on the Conference we will update you, but so far we can confirm that we are keeping to this year’s prices of £50 per delegate, so book early to avoid disaapointment!
If you would like to get involved in the Branch and Group activities, please let me know, new members are always welcome.
I look forward to seeing you at our events.
