This year all CIPD Groups have to manage on a reduced allocation of funds from HQ as a result of the effects of the current economic climate. However, the committee are determined to ensure that this does not affect the quality of our events programme for 2010/11.
We have worked hard to offer you a varied programme with expert speakers, a choice of afternoon and evening events and topics to appeal to the different interests of our members. In addition to the Southampton offering, there are joint events with the Portsmouth group. Please also remember that you are free to attend any of the group events throughout the Wessex region. So I would encourage you to make the most of the wide choice available to support your professional development and to participate in a lively and committed extended local HR network
With an eye to costs we need to restrict the number of mail outs so please get the dates of the events into your diaries now and regularly visit the website for updates www.cipd.co.uk/branch/wessex. Two of our volunteers will be working on improving the website and making booking online an easier experience.
In difficult times it is important to support each other as HR professionals. Each event starts with networking opportunities. The committee also offer short mentoring sessions to anyone who needs a sounding board, upgrade advice, clarity of focus on achieving their goals or help in getting in touch with the right people. Finally my thanks to the hardworking volunteers on the Southampton committee. Despite having busy jobs themselves, they give up their time to organise the programme ensuring that you can access quality CPD locally and make the most of your membership. We look forward to seeing familiar and new faces at the events soon.
