CPD– Your Personal M.O.T.
As people management and development specialists we are all very much aware of the importance of CPD and the difference it can make to our professional role. It is a great vehicle for helping to maintain our knowledge and competence, particularly in light of ever changing legislation! It ensures we continue learning and can do much to enhance our marketability in terms of future job opportunities. It is also, of course, a requirement for us to continue our professional membership of the Institute.
However, there is one really important benefit that is sometimes overlooked - the opportunity to take some personal reflection time for a “Personal M.O.T.” We can all too often get so engrossed in the doing that we forget to stand back and take a good look at what we are achieving, and what we want to achieve going forward. Focusing on CPD can give us that chance. It provides an ideal opportunity to ask ourselves questions such as:-
- Where do I think I am currently?
- What have I really learned in the last year?
- Where do I want to go in the future?
- What do I need to do to help me to get there?
So for those of you who want to take some time out to consider CPD, either for the purpose of upgrading your membership, or simply to run that “Personal M.O.T.”, then do make an appointment to chat with me. Mail Heather Watson at heather.watson@reed.co.uk.
I look forward to spending time with you.
