Developing a new mindset on age and retirement
Tuesday 27 February 2007, Congress Centre, 28 Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3LS
Following the introduction of age legislation in October last year, interest in good practice in tackling age discrimination is increasing. New guidance, funded by the DTI, has been developed jointly by the CIPD and the TUC. Managing age: A guide to good employment practice has been designed to help employers make progress and will be launched by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Alistair Darling.
Objectives
Managing retirement is a hot agenda issue. The default retirement age of 65 is under legal scrutiny and more employers are abandoning mandatory retirement ages. So what should employers do to make sure they don’t fall behind but find new ways forward based on solutions that make sense to business and people?
This event will cover key legal issues related to age and retirement, and in particular:
- give you the reasons why tackling age discrimination is common sense, not mere legal compliance
- help you to engage with three major employment issues that must be addressed to refresh approaches to employing older workers successfully.
Attendance at this event is free thanks to a generous grant from the Department of Trade and Industry. They are funding the project to support their policy intention, which is to encourage employers and unions to adopt best practice in relation to the new age discrimination legislation and to ensure that both are committed to the highest standards when they handle the sensitive issues of age and retirement.
