The CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Award in Employment Law provides a full understanding of the laws surrounding employment. By using a practical case-study approach to address typical workplace issues, you'll gain the expertise and confidence to apply your learning according to the law and good practice.

The CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Award in Employment Law can also be provided in-house. This is a cost-effective approach if you have a number of people who require training. Accreditation
The CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Award in Employment Law is accredited by the CIPD and is equivalent to QCF level 5. Upon successful completion of the programme, you'll receive the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Award in Employment Law.
Content
Course Module 1 : Introductory Workshop - Duration: 1 day

This introductory workshop provides an introduction to the qualification including programme structure, assessments, study materials and student support. It also covers:

  • Where does employment law come from?
  • The purpose and development of employment law
  • Key influencing bodies
  • Primary and secondary legislation
  • How is the law enforced?
  • Enforcement of European law in the UK
  • The role of the Employment Tribunal, composition, rules of procedure, jurisdiction, who can claim, time limits, case management, the hearing, costs and remedies
  • Alternative dispute resolution and the role of ACAS.
Course Module 2 : The Employment Law Practitioner - a complete approach - Duration: 3 days
This course module guides you through the entire employment journey: from recruitment, employment contracts and typical workplace issues that arise during employment, to terminating employment.
How to gain

To be awarded the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Award in Employment Law,  you must successfully complete:

 

  • attendance at two course modules
    • Introductory Workshop (one-day)
    • The Employment Law Practitioner - a complete approach (three-day)
  • practical case study work
  • guided reading
  • one 3,000 word assignment, which will be based on workplace scenarios.
Length of programme
This qualification is a blend of classroom teaching, case study and assessment work and comprises a total of 60 hours learning overall. You have a maximum of six months to meet the requirement of the programme.

Mrs Antonia McAlindin

Antonia is a qualified barrister - specialising in labour law In addition to being an employment lawyer, Toni is a Companion of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She is past Chair of both the CIPD Scottish Partnership and the Women's Legal Defence Fund Scotland. Toni is a former Member of CIPD’s national committees on Employment Relations and Equal Opportunities, and a current member of its Employment Relations Panel. She was a part-time lawyer with the Citizens Advice Bureau and a member of the CBI Employment policy Panel, an Adviser to an NHS Trust and an Associate of the Edinburgh Human Resource Academy at Napier. She was formerly a Board Member of the Employment Research Institute at Napier University, a member of the Employment Forum (large private sector organisations) and an Associate of three consultancies. She was a member of the Court of Stirling University for 6 years, and for 10 years was a member of the board of a Further Education College. She is an Employment Tribunal Member.

Mr Sanjiv Ahluwalia

Sanjiv Ahluwalia is a practising solicitor. Sanjiv has held positions in private practice local government, and the oil industry. He was the Legal Adviser within a trade association for the recruitment industry and subsequently, a training company. Sanjiv is an experienced lecturer, trainer and consultant in employment law and has written widely on legal issues of relevance to HR specialists, line managers and lay people generally. Sanjiv runs his own practice, providing a consultancy service to a wide range of clients. He has acted for employees and employers in cases involving various employment issues.

Mr Peter Winfield

Peter has extensive experience as an employment law, employee relations and HR advisor, consultant and trainer. He has an extensive portfolio of clients developed in this time in all three main sectors. He is successful in interventions through careful client preparation and research. Peter has excellent communication skills and high degree of professional and contemporary knowledge in this field as well as in academic work which has enabled him to establish an excellent reputation for high quality work. Furthermore, Peter has well-developed skills and expertise in writing policies, procedures and other legal/HR documentation, provided both in publishing and client delivery.

Mr Derek Eccleston

An experienced and highly practical Consultant, a specialist in Employment Law, with an in-depth knowledge of H.R. and Employee/Industrial Relations, gained from operating in three industries - Financial Services, Engineering and Local Government, followed by 6 years in a Law Firm. Fees and Dates

Full Up-front Qualification Fee £1,980 + VAT, Member fees: £1,800 + VAT

 

Module by Module Payment Option

You can either pay the full fee up-front, or pay on a course module by course module basis. If you pay on a course module by course module basis, you'll be invoiced for the two course modules separately for the total fee of:

 

  • CIPD Members: £1,890 + VAT
  • Non Members: £2,080 + VAT

 

The fees include all tuition, personal tutor support, assessment, course material and access to the dedicated Virtual Learning Environment. They do not include travel, accommodation, or the £30 registration fee for the intermediate level award if not a member of the CIPD, which is payable directly to the CIPD.
