New standards for foundation and professional development.
The CIPD is about to start the first pilot for the foundation level of its professional coaching standards. The institute has developed standards for foundation level and professional development (postgraduate level). It is working on standards for executive coaches, which it hopes to be able to put out for consultation with members later this year.
The first of four pilots for each level will take place in London. Another is planned in Bulgaria.
The institute has just launched its first certificate in coaching and mentoring based on the new standards. “We decided to get involved in developing standards because many people over the past few years have come forward wanting to train as coaches, while organisations want support in identifying which coaches to go for,” said Judy Whittaker, CIPD director, membership and education.
“We will soon be able to offer individuals at all levels qualifications based on our standards and give employers guidelines on what to look for in a coach,” she added.
