Special interest forum network seminar
Thursday 20 November 2008
Venue: Meeting Room 8.1, Local Government House, Smith Square, Westminster, London, SW1P 3HZ
Adopting new technology can present less-technologically savvy organisations with a challenge, but pulling out all the stops to retain an attractive employer value proposition (EVP) is crucial to overcoming recruitment difficulties, delivering great organisational performance and staying ahead of the competition.
With a younger generation coming through who use Web 2.0 technology as a means of communication to interact with people on an everyday basis, there is also growing pressure on employers to tap into this latest recruitment concept.
There has been much hype about virtual world technology and the use of social networks, such as Facebook and Linked In as recruitment tools. And while some organisations have implemented virtual worlds like Second Life to engage with candidates in a unique and powerful way and are using social networking sites as a mechanism for targeting potential job-seekers, the CIPD’s annual Recruitment, Retention and Turnover Survey (2008) shows that in reality the practice of these more advanced online methods are still in their infancy.
Despite this apparent slow take-up of Web 2.0, it is however bringing positive results for those employers who are already taking advantage of the benefits it can offer. As well as increasing the organisation’s profile, Web 2.0 is cost-effective and presents employers with market intelligence, to help inform employer brand and resourcing strategies.
