Tagging your content
Tagging is adding words and / or phrases to your content that describe what it’s about so it can be categorised, searched for and found in lots of different ways.
On the CIPD Communities homepage, you’ll see a panel titled Most tagged this week. This is a tag cloud and it displays the [20] most popular words and / or phrases that are being used to tag discussion topics and their replies in a particular week. You’ll notice that the larger the word or phrase, the more it’s being used to tag members’ postings.
This makes the sense and context of what is currently being discussed immediately visible to everyone arriving at the Communities homepage. Tags also give extra context to discussions which are all categorised at the top level into one of the standard CIPD subject areas.
Tagging will become increasingly important (and common) as more of us create content on the Internet and using tags is being encouraged wherever there are large groups of people sharing information, ideas and knowledge.
