Make your experience count
Our direct route into professional membership, Experience Assessment, is a straightforward way for you to use your experience to achieve recognition for your HR achievements. Experience Assessment is for HR generalists and specialists across all levels. It caters specifically for those who don't hold the required CIPD qualification and want their HR credentials recognised against the industry standard.
The benefits of professional membership
Professional membership of the CIPD is a must if you want to...
- raise your profile and open doors to new career opportunities
- increase your earning potential
- access resources that support your development and allow you to have greater impact in your role

- access and influence the latest thinking on the future of HR.
Being a professional member allows you to use designatory letters after your name. These are a 'must have' to signal your professionalism amongst peers and employers.
Are you ready for professional membership?
As a HR generalist or specialist you're...

Step-by-step guide to Experience Assessment
Start by establishing whether you can meet the criteria for a level of professional membership and if you can demonstrate this by providing work-based evidence from the last three years.
Call us on +44 (0)20 8612 6208 if you're confident that you meet the criteria. We'll then ask you for an up-to-date CV and book you a pre-assessment discussion (formerly diagnostic), if appropriate. This is a telephone interview which will establish if you're eligible for the full assessment and if so, at what level.
You'll need to complete a full assessment to show how your experience meets the membership criteria. This involves a number of online assessment activities - a Case Study, a Self-assessment Questionnaire, feedback from colleagues and an Impact Report detailing examples from your work. Following the online assessment, you'll meet one of our assessors for a face to face Professional Discussion.
Following your assessment you'll receive a detailed feedback report, which will support your professional development. If successful, you'll be awarded the relevant level of professional membership.
It'll take you approximately four months to achieve professional membership via Experience Assessment.
