The level of qualification you achieve will depend on how many units you complete. To complete the Diploma you will need to do four core units plus four optional units.

Advanced Level Certificate

To achieve the Advanced Level Certificate you need only complete four units. This may suit you if you would prefer only to take the units relevant to your specialism. Depending on the combination of units you choose, you will achieve either a CIPD Certificate in HRM or CIPD Certificate in HRD. The Certificate is designed to be completed over one year.

Possible routes for completing the Certificate:

Option 1 - Year 1

  • Core units 1 and 2
  • Two optional units

Option 2 - Year 1

  • Select four HRM optional units

Option 3 - Year 1

  • Select four HRD optional units

Advanced Level Diploma

To gain the CIPD Advanced Level Diploma you must complete all four core units and four optional units. You will then be awarded the CIPD Advanced Level Diploma in HRM or CIPD Advanced Level Diploma in HRD depending on the optional units you choose. The Diploma is designed to be completed in around two years.

Possible routes for completing the Diploma:

Year 1

  • Core units 1 and 2
  • Two optional units

Year 2

  • Core unit 3 and 4
  • Two optional units

Masters (MA)

To complete the Advanced Level Masters you must complete the CIPD Advanced Level Diploma. You will also undertake an extra element which runs alongside year 2 of the Diploma and which continues for approximately a further three months once your Diploma is complete. This will build on the work done in your Investigating a business issue from an HR perspective core unit. Your Masters will either be in HRM or HRD.

Face-to-face induction

All of the programmes begin with a face-to-face induction day where you will:

  • meet your MOL facilitator and the rest of your study group, usually around a dozen people
  • discuss your timetable for the programme along with any assignments or exams you are required to complete
  • discuss with your MOL facilitator how to set clear study goals and how best to achieve them
  • get advice on how to structure your own personal study time
  • begin sharing ideas with others in your study group.

Regular group workshops

You will attend a workshop approximately every four weeks, per module, and complete assessed work connected to each.

The workshops are lively, interactive and practical with a strong focus on workplace application. Lunch and refreshments are provided too.

During your workshops your MOL facilitator will guide you through practical exercises to develop your skills and help you to explore and discuss the theory behind principles and models.

The assessment activities at this Advanced Level are designed to equip you with the ability to apply learning in practice within your own organisation and your work role.

Support in between workshops

In between your group sessions your MOL facilitator will be available when you need additional one-to-one support and guidance. You will be able to contact your facilitator directly by phone, email or through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), even during evenings and weekends.

Learning from others

You’ll be able to network with other learners throughout your studies, face-to-face at the group workshops and online via the VLE – giving each other valuable support and advice and sharing your ideas and different perspectives. Our learners have told us how important this additional support is to them and how much it has benefited their studies.

Learning resources

Unlike many college-based courses, all you learning materials and online resources are provided as part of your study. Designed so they full complement each other, they are cross-referenced and easy to use to ensure you make the most of your own study time and that your learning experience is enjoyable and successful.
