Wester Region Managing in a Coaching Style 2015

This event was kindly sponsored and hosted by Medtronic who have been strong supporters of the CIPD Ireland Western Region for many years. The event was held in the beautiful new Customer Innovation Centre, Building 2, Medtronic on Friday 27 November.

Goda Faherty, Chairperson of the CIPD Ireland Western Region, opened the event by welcoming the assembled group. Speakers for the morning were Tom Creedon, Director of Human Resources, Medtronic, and Caroline Healy, Senior HR Manager, Medtronic.

Caroline gave an informative insight into the definition and benefits of coaching to the organisation. Key discussion also took place surrounding the influence of organisational culture on coaching, how the barriers to effective coaching can be overcome and the importance of effective feedback. 'Our business operates on the underlying fundamental assumption, that the bedrock to the success of coaching is the belief that every individual has the potential to succeed', said Caroline. Tom also gave an interesting insight into coaching, utilising some excellent best practice examples from his wealth of experience in the HR profession.

The Medtronic team are clearly committed to creating an environment where employees can flourish and they view coaching as a pivotal tool in achieving success. The event was extremely beneficial to HR practitioners, managers and students alike as it also highlighted very successful strategic and operating principles in Medtronic. The workshop element of the event was highly interactive, participative and thought provoking, with key learning’s both personal and professional for all attendees.

Other events

The committee have placed all of the events for the forthcoming year on Eventbrite which will enable attendees to view and register for events in advance. They have also unveiled a new blog which will give further information on upcoming events and post event reviews.

There are some current and practical topics on the programme for the year ahead including: Navigating the new world of employment law: a legal guide to the Workplace Relations Act, and the Annual Student to Practitioner Graduate Work-Shop.

CIPD Western Region welcomes CIPD members and non-members to their events, and are encouraging attendees to bring a work colleague, customer or client along to their events. HR practitioners, managers, supervisors, academics, students alike are all welcome to attend.
