Judy Middleton is District HR Business Partner at Jobcentre Plus as part of Civil Service Fast Stream
Judy's story
I can’t believe I have been working at the Department for Work and Pensions for nearly 18 months! In one sense, the time has flown by, in another, I’m amazed at how much experience I have gained and how much I have learnt in this time!
I’ve been working on Next Generation HR (NGHR). This is a cross-government programme which will fundamentally change the way HR is delivered across the Civil Service. Working on this high profile change programme I have developed a real breadth of skills and had a genuine opportunity to help shape the future of the HR function.
No two weeks (or even two days) are the same! During my time on the Programme I have worked on the Resourcing Project, the Policy Project and in the Programme Office.
I’m delighted that my second placement will be as a District HR Business Partner in Jobcentre Plus. I’m really excited about this new role and I’m confident that the skills and experience I will gain by the end of the 3 years will mean I’m well placed to compete for Senior HR roles in the future.
Key achievements
Some of my key achievements include running an induction session for 60 new staff, drafting a strategic business case for the Resourcing Project, building strong relationships with a number of senior stakeholders and regularly attending and inputting into meetings with senior members of policy staff from across the Civil Service.
Why did you join an HR graduate scheme?
The structured development programme was one of my key drivers for joining the HR Graduate scheme, and I haven’t been disappointed. Completing training in areas such as Project Management, Change Management, HR Strategy and Facilitation skills has helped me develop and succeed in my challenging role – and I’ve had lots of opportunities to put my new skills into practice.
