Welcome from the Chair

Firstly, I would like to welcome you to the CIPD Northern Ireland web page. We have been working hard to make communications with the branch more straightforward and hope to hear from more of our members.

Secondly, you will have known that after several years on Committee Donal Laverty and Stephanie McCutcheon stepped down from their roles are Chair and Secretary. I, personally and on behalf of the Committee, would like to thank them both for their tremendous work in developing the Branch to deliver top class services for our members in Northern Ireland.

Following our Annual Meeting in June 2015 we are pleased to announce the following elected representatives for the 2015-2016 Branch year:

We also have a large number of other volunteers committed to our four specialist sub-committees and I would like to welcome them on board and thank them for their support for this year. If you are still interested in taking part in the Branch please do drop me or one of the other committee members a note of your interest.

Our objective is to operate as the primary channel for member and potential member engagement in Northern Ireland through:

  • supporting the CIPD in building the current and future capability of the profession by offering a programme of events aimed at promoting members' education, development and networking
  • optimising the means by which members and potential members can engage with the CIPD
  • responding to and advising CIPD and other organisations on strategic HR policy and practice
  • developing relationships with local organisations, agencies and the devolved government so as to further raise the profile of both the branch and the Institute
  • providing local and timely support and development for current and aspiring professionals responsible for the leadership, management and development of people within organisations.

We look forward to working on your behalf this year and hope that you will provide continued support to the branch. Hope to see you soon.

The Chair of the CIPD Board is Louise Fisher and her talk ‘21st century HR – adding Value to the Business’, will centre around the 'Profession of the Future' research that the CIPD is undertaking and what the CIPD is doing to support people throughout their careers.

In addition to being Chair of the CIPD Board, Louise Fisher is European HR Director for Xerox Europe. Her career spans a variety of industry sectors and operational and HR roles, including operating at board level.

Louise was appointed in April 2015 Chair of the Board of the CIPD. In her application for the position, she commented: 'I’m passionate about the role of HR and L&D, and I want to influence and contribute more to developing our profession, ensuring it is current and continues to evolve and be relevant. The CIPD is a highly-regarded professional organisation and I support its aims to champion better work and working lives. It would be an honour to bring my practical and governance experience to the role of Chair of the Board and also a fabulous opportunity for my own personal development.'
