Setting the standard
Our Professional Standards define the levels of knowledge and competence you’ll need to demonstrate when operating at a support or practitioner-level or as an advanced practitioner. They also govern entry to CIPD membership and act as a benchmark for the profession as a whole.
To qualify for chartered membership you’ll have to meet the criteria set out in the following four fields:
Leadership and Management
This field requires you to demonstrate your managerial knowledge and competence in understanding how organisations are managed at an operational and strategic level. You do this through our 'advanced standing' mechanism. This means that you demonstrate your managerial evidence through the portfolios you produce for the other fields that you take.
People Management and Development
You'll need to demonstrate that
- you manage your own specialist area
- that you are aware of how personnel and development can make a wider contribution to the effective operation of your organisation.
Specialist and Generalist Personnel and Development/Advanced Practitioner Standards
You'll need to demonstrate that you have met the Standards in four modules from one or more of the following streams:
- Learning and Development
- Employee Reward
- Employee Relations
- People Resourcing
- Advanced Practitioner
The generalist modules will act as an introduction to general knowledge and competence requirements, while the specialist modules offer you the opportunity to concentrate on a specific stream. The Advanced Practitioner Standards are set at a strategic management level.
Applied Personnel and Development
There are two parts to this:
- the Management Report - includes appropriate research methodologies, critical evaluation and advanced technical/professional knowledge.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) - a systematic and continuous review of your development.
Combining membership routes
You can combine PAC with other membership routes, such as the educational route or APCL.
