Join as an Academic member
There are three levels of Academic membership, the highest level being Academic Fellow, then Academic Member and Academic Associate. You should apply for the level that best fits your current profile i.e. the one for which you can demonstrate meeting the criteria through evidence from the last three years.
Application for Academic membership assessment
If you are interested in applying for Academic membership, the first step is to email an up-to-date copy of your CV to AcademicAssessment@cipd.co.uk.

Academic membership assessment
The assessment process is undertaken by specially trained CIPD Academic membership assessors many of whom are senior academics. For individual Academic Associate and Academic Member level applications the final outcome will be a judgment based on the application you have submitted. For Academic Fellow there is an additional assessment discussion about your career, conducted by telephone.
Upon completion of your assessment you will receive a detailed feedback report which will support your professional development.
Face-to-face or telephone assessment
Open assessment events
Occasionally we run open Academic assessment events where candidates can make an appointment for a face-to-face assessment discussion, rather than complete the application form.
The next open event will be held in Manchester on 9-10 November 2016. If you are interested please email us at AcademicAssessment@cipd.co.uk
