Membership fees for new and returning members 2010-11
To join you’ll need to pay a one-off admission fee and a subscription fee. Your subscription fee will then be due for renewal on 1 July each year.

Non-registration fee
To take advantage of the reduced admission fee you’ll need to join us at the start of your qualification. If you don’t join us at the start of your qualification you will be asked to pay the non-registration fee and the full admission fee when you join later.

Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) fees
In addition to your one-off admission fee and your subscription you will also need to pay an APCL assessment fee for the field you are being accredited against:

Reinstatement fee
To keep your membership of the CIPD active you are required to renew your membership every year by paying a renewal fee. The renewal fee is due by 1 July every year.
If you haven't paid the fee, or set up a direct debit to pay the fee, by 30 September your membership services will be stopped and your membership will be lapsed. Between 1 October and 30 April of the year when your membership lapses you can reactivate your membership by paying an additional reinstatement fee as well as your annual renewal fee.

Readmission fee
If you wish to reactivate your membership after 30 April you’ll need to pay a readmission fee and a subscription fee to rejoin.
Membership fees for existing members
2010-11 membership renewal fee
Your membership is due for renewal on 1 July each year. We'll send you a renewals pack in the post at the end of May to let you know how much is due. You can also renew your membership online.
If you are a member and think you may be eligible to join one of our reduced fee registers, you'll find more information on eligibility criteria below.
Special membership registers
We offer a number of membership registers to help existing members in specific circumstances remain in membership. Our membership registers allow members to continue benefiting from our member benefits and services at a reduced fee.
Career bridge register
Our career bridge register is available to eligible members who are on a career break or maternity leave. You only need to pay half your subscription fee (currently £62) to get full access to our member benefits and services. Continuing to access our member benefits and services will help support your continuing professional development (CPD).
To be eligible for the career bridge register you’ll need to meet the following criteria:
• You are an Associate, Graduate or Chartered member of the Institute (Chartered MCIPD, Chartered FCIPD or Chartered CCIPD).
• You’ll not be working for at least one year, full or part-time.
• You’re not receiving any remuneration or paid salary (apart from maternity pay).
• You have held membership of CIPD for at least one full year.
You can stay on the career bridge register for a maximum of five years.

Hardship register
If you’re currently looking for work and finding it difficult to pay your annual subscription fee, you can apply to join our hardship register. Please complete this contact form or write to:

If successful you can stay on the hardship register for a maximum of two years. Affiliate members can not be considered for the hardship register.

Retired register
If you are aged 60 or over you can apply to be placed on our Retired Register and receive full member services for a reduced subscription fee. This would be 50% of the full fee for the first 5 years, and 25% of the full fee thereafter. For the 2010/11 subscription year, the fee on the retired register would be £62. To be eligible for the retired register you’ll need to meet the following criteria:
• You’ve been an Associate or Chartered Member, Chartered Fellow or Companion (Chartered MCIPD, Chartered FCIPD or Chartered CCIPD) for the last five years.
• You’re not in full-time paid employment.
• You’re aged 60 or over.
• You are of any age and have certified permanent incapacity to work because of ill health.

Membership Assessment fee
To achieve a professional level of membership Associate (Assoc CIPD), Chartered Member (Chartered MCIPD) or Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD) you’ll need to pay an assessment fee (£40 for Associate, £60 for Chartered Member and £80 for Chartered Fellow). Recent graduate members are eligible to apply for a a free upgrade to Chartered Member or Fellow using the new online process.
