It's time to raise your professional profile
Gain recognition for how you apply your professional knowledge to your experience in the workplace by upgrading to CIPD professional membership.
About professional membership
Achieving professional membership of the CIPD demonstrates that you meet the rigorous criteria and professional standards for best practice. It showcases your ability to create a real impact in the workplace, and to make a difference to an organisation’s strategy and people. Above all, it emphasises a commitment to your continuing professional development and a desire to stay current. There are three levels of CIPD professional membership: Associate member, Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow. For more information, please visit our professional membership pages.
Eligibility to upgrade
- Student member - From January 2014, all students successfully completing a CIPD awarded Certificate or Diploma (or an equivalent approved university programme) will automatically be upgraded to Associate membership. This will also be retrospectively applied to anyone who has already completed a relevant CIPD qualification. To be eligible, all students will need to ensure that their membership is current. As a result of this change the upgrading process at Associate level is being withdrawn. Students who have successfully completed a Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management or Development are eligible to apply for an upgrade to Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow (subject to meeting the membership criteria).
If you're a Chartered Member, you may be eligible to apply for Chartered Fellow (subject to meeting the membership criteria).
Benefits of upgrading to professional membership
Boost your professional profile
CIPD professional membership helps you to stand out from your peers. Plus you can use letters after your name to showcase your professional credentials (Assoc CIPD, Chartered MCIPD or Chartered FCIPD).
Enhance your earning power
Economic impact research* highlights that those who have a professional qualification and professional membership can stand to gain £152,000 in additional earnings over the course of their career.
The profession benefits too
CIPD professional members carefully plan their own continuing professional development (CPD) by reflecting on their own performance and taking part in both formal and informal development to enhance their own professional skills and knowledge. This in turn positively reinforces the professionalism of the profession.
