The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 introduces a new offence in which an organisation can be prosecuted where there has been a gross failure by its senior managers to take reasonable care for the safety of its workers and/or the public and this has resulted in a person's death.
The Act extends to the UK and most of its provisions, including the new offence, came into force on 6 April 2008. Other provisions will be implemented over several years.
