A new good-practice guide to workforce training has been published by the government and the TUC.
Based on research by Leeds University Business School, the guide describes innovative training models in a bid to encourage UK employers and workers to engage in effective two-way dialogue on training and skills.
The 10 case studies include Newcastle City Council, Rolls-Royce (Scotland), VT Shipbuilding and Ogilvy Group.
Pat McFadden, employment relations minister, said: “These businesses have inspired workers to take up training opportunities and boosts their skills.
“Effective training programmes are the way forward to help boost British productivity, improve workforce skills and enhance our competitive position on the world stage.”
The guide, It’s Time to Talk Training, also has tips on how to assess staff training needs and how to ensure company training fills skills gaps.
Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, added: “Everyone wins when employers work closely with unions on training – employers can unlock the talents of their workforce, staff gain valuable new skills and UK productivity increases.”
