Margaret Plews, who as Margaret Reid was joint author of the CIPD book, HRD: Beyond Training Interventions, a textbook classic which ran to seven editions, has died. A companion of the CIPD, she was active in the institute, holding the position of vice-president, education, of the former IPM. Initially a training officer in the clothing and engineering industries for 15 years, Margaret then moved into higher education. She directed the postgraduate diploma in personnel management at the former Leeds Polytechnic and was later director of the MBA programme at the University of Leeds. Contributing to a number of publications, she also had considerable editorial experience of academic journals such as Personnel Review, and edited Training and Management Development Methods.
