Jackie explains why she applied for the job as Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and lists some of the places where she worked before the CIPD.

Jackie explains her impressions of her first 100 days.

Philippa Lamb will introduce the  questions and you can listen to the answers on the podcast.

The First questioner is Dominic McGeown in Northern Ireland. He has been in HR for 12 years, but has become disillusioned with the battle to show that HR makes a real difference to a company’s bottom line. He wants to know if Jackie could give him some pointers for ‘measurables’ he can use to prove to ‘non-believers’ that HR makes a difference.

Elton Heanue, an Organisational Development Consultant at the Prudential, wants Jackie’s views on how the HR profession will need to adapt to keep pace with today’s competitive business environment. How does Jackie see the CIPD leading HR professionals to develop the profession to drive businesses, not just to survive, but to prosper in this environment?

Philippa says that one questioner describes the membership structure as Byzantine and wonders how Jackie might improve it. Members also wants to know how the Institute will help those who have not upgraded to chartered membership.

The role of the CIPD globally is on many people’s minds, with questions about whether there are there any plans to create parity agreements or introduce a globally recognised ‘brand’.

The next question comes from several members working for smaller companies. They are concerned about the price of CIPD products and services and wonder whether we could tailor our prices to their budgets.

Shirley Dockerill, a learning and development professional, is interested in the CIPD’s strategic vision of Human Resource Development over the next ten years.

Philippa raises another issue of concern to many members. What plans does the Institute have to ensure that its voice and the voice of its members, is heard in the corridors of power?

Zoe Rocholl wants to know what Jackie’s biggest bugbear about the HR profession is and how she plans to address it.

Finally, we hear from Kate Wilding, a tutor at the CIPD's Certificate in Personnel Practice at Riverside College in Cheshire. She has a new set of students embarking on the course, and a career in HR. She wants to know what Jackie’s message to them is.
