In this podcast we discuss how learning and coaching add value and contribute to business performance, especially in the current economic climate. We also look at the latest annual CIPD Learning and Development survey.
Discussing the issues with Philippa Lamb are:
Philippa Lamb asks management guru, Max Mckeown, how he tackles senior management’s reluctance to spend on training. He then explains how he would spend his budget for maximum effect.
Mark Wilcox tells Philippa how the psychological contract plays a vital part in learning and gets the best business performance results.
Max suggests some practical things to do in order to get to better organisation performance – especially creating thinking time.
Coaching was new at the Metropolitan Police. Jackie Keddy tells us how she started the process. Listen to her explain the benefits of the programme. Even though she is not throwing a lot of money at it, coaching is now embedded into the Force and is increasing employee engagement.
Marion Fanthorpe introduced a comprehensive cultural change programme to Camden Council to produce sustainable change after a re-evaluation of spending at the Council. Marion tells us how it was introduced and how it was received.
Fast-paced retailer, Selfridges has also seen the benefits of coaching. Caroline Darker explains how coaching was given in bite-size chunks to empower employees and speed up processes. Support for the coaching initiative is sometimes lacking. Caroline suggests that organisation culture shouldn’t be ignored.
Finally, Philippa asks Mark about targeting the right learning at the right people. Hear Mark’s take on how tailored development drives business performance in times of increased competition.
