Neil Roden

Neil joined The Royal Bank of Scotland in November, 1997 as Director, Human Resources.

Neil became Group Director, Human Resources in March 2000, following the acquisition of NatWest by the Royal Bank of Scotland. The overall HR function now totals nearly 1900 people. The function has 7 key Consulting Groups facing off to the following business areas: Group Functions, Retail Markets, Manufacturing, Corporate Markets, RBS Insurance, Ulster Bank and Citizens Bank. Additionally, there are 3 specialist areas of HR: Remuneration & Benefits; Resourcing & Development and Policy & Employment, complemented by HR Shared Services, which provides administrative services (in-house or outsourced) and Management Information. All of these key teams are managed by a senior HR professional, providing Neil with an HR Leadership team totalling 13 people.

Before joining RBS, Neil was General Manager, Human Resources, Europe for National Australia Group (Clydesdale, Northern, Yorkshire, National Irish and National Australia Banks). He was, during his time with NAG, Head of Human Resources for Clydesdale Bank and NAG Services.

Prior to this, he spent time in HR for Lloyds Bank.

Neil has an Honourary Doctor of Letters from Glasgow Caledonian University for his contribution to HR. He is also a board member of the council of the Institute of Employment Studies and Vice President, Organisation and Resourcing of the CIPD, as well as various networking groups.
