Marcelo Borges is the Learning & Development Manager for Nando’s Restaurants U.K. Marcelo came to the U.K. in 1998 to learn English, after completing a BA in Law in Brazil. He joined Nando’s as a griller, when the company had only 8 restaurants and soon became involved with the training of Nandocas (restaurant staff). He was then promoted to management having also training responsibilities which included inducting all new Nandocas.
After 3 years working as a line manager, Marcelo joined Nando’s HR, doing on a full time basis what he was most passionate about: training. He’s been looking after the Learning & Development function for the past 3 years.
His main achievements include being part of the growth of Nando’s – the company now has 148 restaurants - and being involved in the design and delivery of National Training Awards Winning Training Programmes. Marcelo is a CIPD Licentiate specialising in Learning and Development and has completed the second year of his Master in Personnel & Development with the University of Westminster. He is also one of the judges for the National Training Awards.
