Maxine Clark

Maxine joined the Department for Work and Pensions in 1975. She is a highly regarded Learning and Development Professiona and an advocate of life-long learning, having studied for and gained a degree in Mathematics and going on to study for an MBA while working full time.

Maxine moved from being a generalist to the Learning and Development area over 20 years ago, initially as a trainer. She currently heads up the Department for Work and Pensions learning design team. For the past two years the team have been spearheading the move from training to learning. She strongly believes in personal responsibility for learning with access at the point of need – the workplace.

Maxine also believes in the importance of L&D Professionals modelling the behaviour they ask of other learners. To this end she was the design architect for the building L&D Professionalism Programme for the Department. This programme comprises of a comprehensive capability matrix of web-enabled learning, facilitated workshops and planned learning whilst working.
