Tim Kendall

Tim is a Communications Training specialist, with a PhD in Environmental Impact Assessment from the University of Kyoto, and over 12 years experience working in the communications and training industry in Japan.

Tim was hired by Pfizer Global Research & Development Japan in 2003 in order to develop programs and methodologies that would increase the contribution of scientists to the global business environment. This followed 8 years as an employee of Berlitz Language School where he managed a Language Centre, and was instructor to senior management at Toyota Motor Corporation, Honda Motor Corporation, and other major Japanese and global companies.

Initially responsible for only English training at Pfizer, Tim has taken the group to a higher level and is currently responsible for the development of innovative training programs focusing on cultural awareness, and western business styles and culture. This training has, in addition, lead to an increase in awareness of cross-cultural communication challenges by Pfizer colleagues in the UK and US.

In 2005 Tim and his team were awarded an internal prize for their contribution to communications development between Pfizer Global Research & Development Nagoya and other Pfizer sites.

Tim is a regular contributor at conferences on communications development and English training in Japan. He has a strong interest in the approaches to training offered by global companies, cultural challenges faced by trainers, and how this changes the role of the trainer.
