CIPD appoints Jackie Orme as new Chief Executive

10 October 2007

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development is delighted to announce the appointment of Jackie Orme as Chief Executive, to succeed Geoff Armstrong, who is retiring in June 2008.

Jackie Orme joins the CIPD in April 2008 from PepsiCo International, where she is Chief Personnel Officer and Vice-President, HR. Jackie is a member of the UK Executive Board of PepsiCo International, and sits on the global PepsiCo International HR Council. She is also on the Board of Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity.

Jackie brings with her global experience, and a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing HR professionals today. In her twenty-year career she has gained extensive experience in HR, and has also led a number of business transformation and integration projects across PepsiCo International.

Vicky Wright, CIPD President, says:
“This is an exciting moment for the CIPD. Jackie has exceptional experience of the modern world our members are operating in. As a leading practitioner and innovator, she is ideally placed to lead the profession into the future. She’s also got the business experience needed to drive continued high performance and growth at the CIPD.

“People and the way they are managed and developed are playing an ever-more central role in organisations in all sectors of the economy. The CIPD is well placed to meet the growing needs of HR professionals and of the wider managerial community. We’ve got ambitious plans to extend our research and services so that we are providing maximum support to our growing membership and anyone involved in the management and development of people. Jackie will lead these plans, which have the potential to make a real difference to the productivity and performance of organisations and the wider economy. She’ll be ably supported by the CIPD’s strong management and staff team and the committed volunteers who contribute to the Institute’s work.”

Jackie Orme, newly appointed CIPD Chief Executive, said:
“It is a great honour to be appointed to this role at the head of an HR profession that is growing in influence and standing. I’m looking forward to leading the CIPD’s work to develop and promote great practice in the management and development of people.”
