  • 15 Dec 2011

Today at the Annual General Meeting of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), five leading names in HR were appointed as honorary officers to the CIPD.

Robert Booker, a member of the BG Group Executive Committee, was named as Honorary Treasurer* and will serve for three years. Four Vice-President appointments were also made, each of which will last for two years:

• Hugh Mitchell, Chief Human Resources and Corporate Officer at Royal Dutch Shell, as Vice-President International
• Nita Clarke, Director of the IPA, as Vice-President Employee Relations
• Anna Kyprianou, Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor at Middlesex University Business School, as Vice-President Membership and Professional Development*
• Bill Parsons, EVP Human Resources at ARM Holdings, as Vice-President Learning and Talent Development.

Earlier in the day, the CIPD Council re-elected Dean Royles, Director at NHS Employers, to a second term as Chair of the CIPD Board – commencing in May 2012 and running for a further three years.

Gill Rider, CIPD President, comments: “I’m delighted to welcome these high calibre additions to the CIPD’s team of Vice Presidents and Board Directors, and also that we have retained Dean Royles’ knowledge, experience and commitment as our Chair for another three years. Particularly at this difficult time, I’m pleased with the continuity and stability provided by Dean’s willingness to continue serving as part of the CIPD’s leadership and governance team. The business and professional experience these individuals bring together will strengthen our capacity to deliver for CIPD members and the wider HR profession. As the CIPD continues to set and promote the highest standards for a global HR profession, the breadth of domestic and global experience of these new appointments is particularly relevant and welcome.”

Dean Royles, Chair of the CIPD Board, said:
“It has been a privilege to serve as Chair of the CIPD Board over the last three years – and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to serve for another term. The vision, progress and evolution at the CIPD over the last few years has been truly impressive. The next few years promise challenges, for sure, but also tremendous opportunities. I look forward to supporting the rest of the team at the CIPD in rising to the challenges and seizing the opportunities”.

Dean Royles’ current term as Chair of the CIPD Board runs until May 2012. The CIPD’s Council is responsible for the election of the Chair of the Board. At today’s meeting, the Council re-elected him, unanimously and unopposed. His new three year term will commence at the May 2012 Board meeting.

*The Honorary Treasurer and Vice-President Membership and Professional Development are members of the Board. The latter role has been renamed from Vice-President Membership and Education to reflect the changed nature of its remit.
