The latest Public Policy E-newsletter

The world of work continues to attract the headlines with key debates on how to make retirement more flexible, whether to give new rights to agency workers and how best to help more people back into work. The CIPD has been at the forefront of many of these debates in Parliament and in the national media, as this quarter’s issue illustrates.

Engaging with Whitehall and Westminster

Recent developments include:
  • CIPD members meet at the DWP to share their views with Government on reform of the FMed3 sicknote.
  • Next month the CIPD launches research conducted with the HSE and Investors in People, examining the importance of line management capability and stress at work. This will aim to create healthy and productive workplaces where people are able to and want to work to their full potential.

Parliamentary Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Lord McKenziewill be speaking at a joint CIPD/HSE/Investors in People event, to launch research conducted into 'line management capability and stress at work.'

The event will feature an overview of the research findings by Emma Donaldson-Feilder from Affinity Health at Work and a case study presentation by Dr Jan Hill-Tout, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Employee Wellbeing, Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust, which is one of more than 30 organisations that have taken part in the project to date. A total of 16 organisations are taking part in a final phase of the research, which will involve designing and evaluating a learning and development intervention based on the effective management competencies that have been identified.

Labour Market Outlook - Parliamentary Launch

The CIPD will be launching its quarterly Labour Market Outlook survey report on the 10 June in the Jubilee Room, Houses of Parliament. This quarter’s launch centres on "What will the current economic situation mean for jobs in your area?
