The CIPD, in partnership with Skills CFA, have developed the Higher Apprenticeship in Human Resource Management. The higher apprenticeship is now available to all employers and apprentices in England.
This new programme is underpinned by CIPD’s Level 5* Applied Diploma in Human Resources, which is equivalent to the second year of a university degree in the UK, and was developed with input from a host of employers, training providers and subject matter experts.
The Higher Apprenticeship enables apprentices to develop knowledge and skills in human resource management, while being employed and earning a salary.
Furthermore it also seeks to increase competence in the sector. Providing employers with the opportunity to expand their human resource function, access a wider pool of talent, and better support their most valuable asset: their people.
What an apprentice can expect
The apprenticeship takes between one and two years to complete with apprentices dividing their time between:
- undertaking their role
- being taught on-the-job (e.g. being trained by a manager)
- being taught off-the-job (e.g. attending a college).
As well as HR topics, including resourcing and talent planning, employee engagement, employment law and improving organisation performance, apprentices will develop personal, learning and thinking skills, such as independent enquiry, creative thinking, reflective learning, team working, self-management and effective participation.
